Through the generous support of Safe Saskatchewan and SGI, Safe Communities Humboldt & Area has been able to build capacity within our community through the training of local safeTALK workshop facilitators. These local facilitators are now able to deliver suicide prevention education to Humboldt and area citizens.
safeTALK is a program to help create suicide safer communities. The program not only helps build capacity in our communities but helps people learn how to become more alert suicide helpers which benefits everyone.
We delivered safeTALK training to 22 individuals with the Humboldt Fire Department and Humboldt & District Ambulance Service in early March 2020. Two additional workshops scheduled for 2020 were postponed as a result of the Provincial restrictions on indoor gatherings. Postponed workshops from late March and August 2020 will be rescheduled as soon as it is safe to resume in person training opportunities.
In 2021 we were able to safely resume in person workshops and provided sessions to the general public in September 2021 with an additional workshop being held in November 2021.
